In 2017, acclaimed artist Frenchy captured legend George Porter, Jr, on a typically great Monday night at the legendary Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street.

George is the beloved leader of the Patry Haus Band, bassist for The Meters, and past King Robustus of K.O.A.K.   The painting shows George center stage, with bandmates Terrence Houston on drums and Mike Lemmler on keys, joined on this night by three-time Grammy winner Jeff Coffin of Bela Fleck and Dave Mathews Band lineage on sax. (The story is that Jeff’s wife requested the sit-in as her birthday gift).  This throw-down was captured on canvas by the one and only Frenchy for the world to remember.

The canvas measures 24″ x 36″, and it is signed on the back by all the musicians pictured.  It is in a place-holder frame.  The art is an older style of a Frenchy’s work that he no longer paints in.  This type of one-of-a-kind original acrylic on canvas typically fetches between $3500 and $6500.

Online raffle ticket sales end Sunday October 25.  

The winner will be drawn live on Monday, October 26 at the George Porter Jr. Trio show at The Maple Leaf Bar, between the two sets.  The drawing will also be live-streamed on the Leaf’s YouTube channel.  Raffle tickets will be available on site before and during George’s first set.  The Maple Leaf is offering a $5 discount on the show cover charge with advance raffle ticket purchase.  The code is valid for advance online tickets, and also at the door the night of the show.  Check your email after completing your raffle ticket purchase for the code.
